Executive Director of RACES, Guest Speaker for Social Work Convocation
Mary Evans, MA, LCPC, to address graduating class of 2016 during University of Illinois Social Work Convocation ceremony on May 14th, at Smith Memorial Music Hall
Evans is a passionate, high-energy leader who brings more than 25 years of experience to our community. Mary’s two decades of service provide her with a broad range of leadership skills, including enhanced specialties in strategic planning, program management, staff development, and training. As Executive Director of Rape Advocacy, Counseling and Education Services, Mary’s most recent contribution has been to spear-head fundraising efforts within our community, energizing and motivating us to ensure valuable social services continue in spite of an ongoing 10-month Illinois budget impasse. She is an ally, advocate, and activist for positive social change.
A graduate of the University of Illinois Springfield, Mary holds a Master of Arts in Counseling and a Bachelor of Arts in Child, Family and Community Services. She began her professional career at Bradley University’s Counseling Center in Peoria, IL. Since then Mary served in direct service and leadership positions with community and hospital-based addiction treatment programs, as well as Project Director for the US Department of Labor’s Job Corps Program. Prior to joining Rape Advocacy, Counseling and Education Services, Mary served as Clinical Director with Prairie Center Health Systems, Urbana, as well as in private practice.
Throughout her career, Mary has been honored for exemplary leadership including Project Director of the Year and Success Lasts a Lifetime awards by the US Department of Labor. Mary is a published author, most recently contributing to Inspired Women Succeed, a compilation of inspirational essays. As a member of the Governing Body Executive Committee for the Illinois Coalition Against Sexual Assault, and former member of the Champaign County Drug Court and Project ACCESS Youth Initiative Steering Committees, Mary has a long-standing commitment to leading positive social change in our community.
