Afternoon and Evening Youth Counselors

Direct care workers, called counselors at Cunningham, provide care and supervision to the youth in our therapeutic residential programs. This includes planning activities, assisting with school work, engaging in various recreational activities, assisting with problem solving, facilitating doctor’s appointments, and other similar tasks with a team of counselors and supervisors. All youth have a treatment program which our counselors use to direct their interactions with the youth. Youth are placed in our residential treatment facility to address significant behavioral and mental health challenges. Experience working with youth with these challenges is preferred. Bachelor’s Degree in a human service area or at least five years of experience in a mental health or human services field is required. Shifts are generally from 1 pm-11 pm.

Extensive training will be provided. Ability to document mental health services using a customized computer program required. Prospective employees must be at least 21, have excellent written and oral communication skills, possess a valid Illinois driver’s license that has not been suspended in the previous three years, proof of auto insurance, and must be able to maintain our client’s confidentiality.

Prospective employees are required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
