Dr. Tara Powell Named Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Grant Recipient
Dr. Tara Powell (PI) has received an $800,000 grant in partnership with Americares from the Robert Woods Johnson Foundation. This grant will provide support for testing interventions related to support for health workers in Puerto Rico who were affected by Hurricanes Maria and Irma in 2017.
The project titled: “Healing for Health Workers: Building Mental Health Capacity in Post-Maria Communities,” is a non-medicalized approach to providing health workers with psychoeducational and solution focused support services through the World Health Organization’s Interagency Standing Committee Mental Health in Emergencies Guidelines (IASC).
The Healing for Health Workers program employs a tiered approach aimed to reduce stress, depression, PTSD and burnout, and build participants’ capacity to integrate basic mental health and psychosocial services into primary emergency and health care.
