The 2015 Larine Y. Cowan Make a Difference Award for Teaching and Mentoring in Diversity has been awarded to associate professor, Jan Carter-Black. This recognition is to honor leadership efforts in being an outstanding teacher and mentor to students at Illinois.

There are four categories for the awards, including Advocacy for LGBTQ Affairs, Excellence in Access and Accommodations, Leadership in Diversity, and Teaching and Mentoring in Diversity.  All four are awarded by Illinois’ Office of Diversity, Equity, and Access, an office that “seeks to identify, recognize, and honor nominees that demonstrate exceptional dedication to and success in promoting diversity and inclusion through teaching, research, hiring practices, courses, programs, and events.”

Carter-Black’s achievements will be acknowledged at the 30th Annual Celebration of Diversity on Friday, November 6, 2015 from 8:30 to 11:00 a.m. at the I-Hotel and Conference Center in Champaign.
