Children and Family Research Center

The Children and Family Research Center (CFRC, the Center), a unit within the School of Social Work at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, is seeking applications for a Research Specialist/Senior Research Specialist. The Center was established in 1996 in collaboration with the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services to identify and monitor child welfare service outcomes, conduct program evaluations of key interventions and complete research on critical issues that impact the success of these efforts. The Center conducts child welfare program evaluations, sponsors original research and promotes evident-based practices that enhance the safety, permanence and well-being of children in or at risk of substitute care.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Support current research initiatives, seek and obtain funding for new research initiatives, and provide consultation to child welfare agency and Center staff on research methodology and statistics.  Work within a team environment on research projects that fulfill the Center’s mission to 1) maintain a research program that is responsive to the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services responsibilities under statues and court orders and 2) contribute to scientific knowledge about child safety, family permanence and child and family well-being. In addition to collaborative work on existing Center projects, will develop and lead his/her own program of research related to one or more of these topics.  Disseminate research findings through academic journal publications, research reports, briefs targets toward child welfare administrators and professionals and presentations at local, state and national conferences.  The Senior Research Specialist position will have additional expectations, such as obtaining external funding and mentoring/supervising junior researchers and graduate students affiliated with the Center.

Minimum Education:

A Master’s is required for Research Specialist; PhD is required for Senior Research Specialist.  Degrees need to be in Psychology, Sociology, Social Work or related field.

Minimum Experience:

At least 4 years professional experience for a Research Specialist; at least 10 years professional experience for a Senior Research Specialist.

Knowledge Requirements:

A strong background in quantitative or qualitative research methodologies, or both.  Knowledge of and contribution to scholarly literature and research in child welfare and ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented workplace.

This is a full-time (100%), twelve month non-tenure track academic professional position. The position is grant-funded and renewal is contingent upon availability of funds. The selected applicant will work in the Urbana, Illinois office and report to the Center Director. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications. The proposed start date is as soon as possible after the closing date.
