This April, join us in recognizing Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM). This month serves as a time to listen to and honor survivors in our community, reminding those affected by sexual violence that they are not alone. It is also an opportunity to deepen our understanding of sexual violence in the digital age.
Each year, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, along with the broader community, organizes a series of events to support survivors and empower bystanders to take action against this ongoing local, national, and global issue.
The Women’s Resources Center (WRC) is hosting a series of conferences, workshops and seminars all throughout April to help spread awareness and bring communities together. Check out their calendar for a full list of events.
Please note their new location at 616 E. Green Street, Suite 213.
WRC is also committed to providing programing and confidential advising for members of our campus community. To make an appointment with a confidential advisor, please email wrcadvocacy@illinois.edu or call 217-333-3137. For confidential support outside of their hours (9am-5pm, Monday-Friday), please contact RACES’ 24/hour hotline at 217-384-4444.
There are many resources available across campus. We have compiled a list to help students find any resource they may need, which includes sexual assault.
Free educational workshops for ages 13 to 18 will be hosted by the Rape Advocacy, Counseling & Education Services (RACES) every Saturday throughout the month. Workshops will take place from 2pm to 4:30 pm and provide snacks to attendees while featuring activities pertaining to topics related to sexual violence. An informative zine will also be created, and distributed throughout the community and online.
RACES will be hosting a Voices Through Vision community art gallery and open mic night on Friday, April 25th from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Find out more info on this powerful night for survivors on their website.
