**This training fulfills the Cultural Competency requirement for licensure in the state of Illinois**

In this interactive 3-hour virtual instructor-led course, attendees will build awareness of the strengths and needs surrounding the LGBTQIA+ population, improve understanding of terminology and language, discuss current social factors impacting the community, and learn specific techniques for relating to individuals in this population.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify strengths, challenges, and support needs within the LGBTQIA+ community.
  • Demonstrate understanding of inclusive terminology and affirming language.
  • Describe current social and cultural factors impacting LGBTQIA+ individuals.
  • Apply practical strategies for building respectful, culturally informed relationships with LGBTQIA+ individuals.

Workshop Presenters

Headshot of Laura Dommaraju

Laura Dommaraju is the Family Advocate Specialist Lead for the School of Social Work PATH Program. She assists in the development and delivery of Systems of Care training for Family Peer Supporters. Laura also provides leadership, coaching, and support for staff and serves as Subject Matter Expert for Family Peer Support.

Laura graduated in 2018 with a Bachelor’s in English and Minor in Social Work. She worked in child welfare, mental health, and developmental disability programs before joining the PATH team.

Currently, Lindsey Ebers serves as a Team Lead – Systems of Care with the Provider Assistance and Training Hub (PATH) with U of I School of Social Work. As part of her role, she assists with developing curriculum, providing coaching, support and training mental health providers across the state of Illinois. Prior to this role, she worked in a variety of roles within community mental health including crisis, providing therapy and supervising community-based programs for youth and families. Lindsey is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and holds her Master’s degree in Social Work from Southern Illinois University – Carbondale.
