MSW School of Social Work Scholarships
Below are the MSW student scholarships available for current MSW students. The recipients of each of these scholarships will be determined by the Financial Awards Committee based on a review of applications submitted by students. The deadline for applying for each scholarship is September 11, 2020 at 5:00 PM. Following is a brief description of the award, its requirements and amount, and the procedures for applying.
Make sure to double check that your application includes all the necessary components. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
Students may apply for more than one scholarship.
MSW Award Description and Requirements
|Adah Hopkins Aime Scholarship (nominated by peer, faculty, and/or staff)||Awarded to an MSW student who is balancing many obligations while attending graduate school, who is handling these obligations in a positive, professional manner, and for whom the award would assist them in meeting the educational demands of graduate school. A student may be nominated by a peer, faculty, and/or staff but cannot self-nominate. Letters of nominations should be submitted by email to Kathleen Thomsen at email@example.com||1,750|
|Becca Nimmer Marcus Scholarship||Awarded to an MSW student who has identified the field of mental health as an area of professional interest and intends to practice in this area upon graduation.||1,500|
|Downing Field Education Scholarship||Awarded to an MSW student participating in an unpaid internship and involved in community organizing or advocacy.||750|
|Educational Opportunity Scholarship||Awarded to an MSW student, with a preference for a group in an underrepresented or minority population.||3,000|
|Janice M. Hartman Memorial Scholarship||Awarded to female MSW students who have worked in the field and are returning to school.||1,200|
|John K. Gibson Scholarship in Social Work||Awarded to an MSW student who has demonstrated commitment to any of the following: social justice, restorative justice, civil rights, and/or experience working with marginalized persons.|

|Marietta Stevenson Scholarship||Awarded to an MSW student who has a policy interest which is supported by demonstrating leader¬ship in class projects, student organizations, and/or community /internship experiences.||1,000|
|Mark P. Hale Scholarship (nominated by faculty member)||Awarded to an MSW student who demonstrates potential for making a significant contribution to the profession of social work.||700|
|Miranda J. Dresing Scholarship Fund||Awarded to an MSW student who will be entering an unpaid internship in the field of mental health. Preference shall be given to students with demonstrated financial need and who have received their undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.||1,000|
|Patchner-Ramanathan Scholarship||Awarded to an MSW student who has identified health care or service to the elderly as an area of professional interest and intends to practice in that area upon graduation.||650|
|Ron Moorman Scholarship||Awarded to an MSW student who has identified the field of child welfare as an area of professional interest and intends to practice in that area upon graduation.||400|
|Roxie A. Watson Scholarship||Awarded to an MSW student who has succeeded in their academic pursuits despite encountering obstacles to success. The scholarship shall be given to a student who demonstrated a desire to make a difference but who may not typically qualify for assistance with priority given to single parents, direct caregivers, and veterans with secondary preference given to students have encountered other significant personal obstacles.||750|
|Samuel and Ruth Blinick Memorial Scholarship in Geriatrics||Awarded to an MSW student who plans to work with the elderly population upon graduation.||550|
|Shirley Wattenberg Scholarship||Awarded to an MSW student who has identified the field of health care as an area of professional interest and intends to practice in that area upon graduation.||1,750|
