Program Funding Model

The DSW is a self-funded program, supported entirely by tuition, which means traditional assistantships or tuition waivers aren’t offered. However, we honor any waivers required by statute. Please visit Grad Illinois for more information on honors statutory waivers.

Tuition Overview

Tuition is charged per credit hour and is the same for both in-state and out-of-state students. The three-year program consists of 12 sequential eight-week modules, each worth 4 credits, for a total of 48 credits. Current tuition rates can be found on the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Office of the Registrar’s website.

Financial Aid Options

• U.S. citizens and permanent residents may apply for federal student aid via FAFSA.
• Many students use employer tuition assistance or use professional development funds provided by their employer.
• A limited number of scholarships and fellowships may be available through the School of Social Work.
• Eligible students can use GI Bill® and other veterans’ education benefits.
