RECRUITING BONUS: $1,500- 2,500

The Engagement Specialist (Certified Recovery Support Specialist) shall provide recovery-oriented, person-centered, and trauma informed services; serve as an advocate; provide information and support for individuals in school and community setting. The CRSS will possess the skills to maintain a high level of professionalism, ethics and positive interactions. The CRSS will work in tandem with the Family Linkage Specialists in responding to situations in the community, provide case management, and make appropriate referrals and linkage to clients.

  • Responsible for obtaining Obtain CRSS certification within one year of employment.
  • Provide services in tandem with Family Linkage Specialist for the purpose of providing peer support, information, and advocacy as appropriate.
  • Responsible for meeting clients in their preferred location to include home, school, community, or office.
  • Provide direct service to include case management, case consultation, community support, and crisis management.
  • Provide education, support, and mentoring to individuals and families receiving services in the SBMH Program.
  • Work collaboratively as a team member that includes individuals, families, children, agency staff, and other providers in the community.
  • Assist and empower clients of the agency to make informed decisions about all aspects of treatment.
  • Participate in regularly scheduled consultations regarding shared clients with SBMH Therapist, Family Linkage Specialist, and D300 staff to include Family School Liaisons (FSL).
  • Prepare clients for transition to services and participate in case transition meetings.



  • Responsible for reporting to supervisor on an on-going basis potentially problematic situations/cases, and emergency or crisis situations.
  • Schedule and attend regular supervision with The Director of School Based Mental Health to discuss cases and report problem cases, need for special services and resource information.
  • Attend group supervision as scheduled and participate in Performance Quality Improvement Goals.
  • Must fulfil agency required training and attend in-service trainings assigned by supervisor.



  • Communicate with the client’s primary clinician/team at least bi-weekly.
  • Submit reimbursement paperwork for travel expenses on a monthly basis.
  • Complete all other clinical paperwork for cases as needed. This may include Incident Reports when necessary, DCFS reports, and any requested agency reports as well as any other paperwork clinically necessary for maintaining files.
  • Stay current on Medicaid Rule 132 and Rule 140.
  • Must maintain 100,000/300,000/50,000 automobile insurance. Provide documentation that said insurance is current at the required level when requested by the agency.


Community Education/Public Relations

  • Educate community regarding the needs of parents and families of children with a mental illness.
  • Educate agency staff and other providers regarding the needs of parents and families of children with a mental illness.
  • Responsible for facilitating positive networking relationships with community service providers and/or networks as assigned by supervisor.


Special Assignments/Projects

  • Be available to help develop materials and participate in special community education projects/presentations as requested by administrative staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Perform incidental business related travel as needed.
  • Participate in agency Risk Management and Continuous Quality Improvement activities.
  • Perform job responsibilities with a positive attitude
  • Responsible for promoting collegiality at the workplace by working collaboratively with others.
  • Participate in projects or other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Responsible for any equipment assigned to be kept free from damage or loss. Any damage or loss of equipment needs to immediately be reported to Supervisor.

Physical and Environmental Considerations

The incumbent will be sitting in car for travel for several minutes every day. The incumbent is frequently expected to walk, sit, stand, bend and drive. The incumbent may also need to climb stairs on occasion. Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs. on occasion.
The work environment is mostly field based and will have varying temperatures and noise level. The incumbent can expect to work in client’s homes, schools, public libraries, community agencies, and some in office time.

  • Workers may be required to stand for long periods of time such as if at a hospital and they do not have a space for you to sit while you work.
  • Other physical demands include sitting, walking and carrying your equipment.
  • Use of computers/surface pros 85% of the time.
  • During training or other job duties (such as billing, additional training, team meetings), some of those duties can be complete at home with the permission of your supervisor
  • If at the office, crisis workers share a common area. Desks and seats are shared amongst other members of the team. Crisis workers do begin their day in the office for their scheduled day-time shifts.
  • If the shared area becomes too loud, workers are allowed to utilize therapy office space downstairs (if the space is available) or there is a library area near the common space that can be used.
  • There is also computer space downstairs near the bathrooms with two extra laptops available.


This position requires availability for face-to-face with clients. During the COVID19 pandemic, field-based clinicians will be provided with PPE to complete assessments in the community. As of September 2020, FSA is continuing field-based worked.


Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This position is full-time, 37.5 hour work week. This position requires 2 evenings/week or 1 evening/ 1 weekend.



This positions require extensive travel throughout the Kane and McHenry County areas and occasionally to areas outside of that.

High School Diploma/GED or Higher Education. Reliable personal transportation, valid Illinois driver’s license, and satisfactory driving history along with documentation verifying current automobile insurance. Must be flexible, able to respond to crisis calls within designated time frames, and able to travel and work weekend and evening hours as needed.
Lived experience as a consumer of mental health. Related professional experience working in human service program and with people of diverse backgrounds. Ability to recognize trauma symptoms and support healing and recovery for youth exposed to trauma. Knowledge of childhood trauma and/or experience working with youth that have been exposed to trauma. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Strong negotiation and mediation skills. Ability to solve practical mathematical problems. Must obtain CRSS certification within one year of employment.
