
Research Resources
The Research Office works closely with the Dean, the Business Office, and research relevant university offices to support all levels of faculty research at the School of Social Work. We seek to maintain a culture of rigorous, collaborative, and interprofessional research that is innovative and has real world impact. We accomplish this through high quality lectures, trainings, social events, dissemination of research findings and opportunities, and sharing of resources.

Proposal Submission
Proposal Notification – Those thinking of applying for a grant must complete and submit the Proposal Notification Form. This includes proposals that will be submitted to campus or within the UIUC system (e.g., CSBS, C2A, DPI, etc.) The form should be submitted as soon as possible, but at least 2 full weeks prior to the deadline and at least 6 weeks for federal or state grants. You can also use this form to notify the SSW Grants Team that you will be submitting an LOI (Letter of Intent). The form is sent to the Grants Team in the SSW Business Office and the SSW Research Office upon submission. Your grant manager will respond within 48 hours with specific questions, submission deadlines, and other relevant information.
SSW Funding
Faculty Pilot Research Funding– SSW provides limited pilot research funding to tenure-track faculty in instances where external funding is not feasible. Awards are available up to $10,000. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, subject to the availability of funds.
Funded proposals must:
• Be well justified
• Advance the School’s mission and strategic plan
• Are expected to lead to an external funding application
Priority consideration will be given to proposals that:
• Address social justice issues
• Include collaborations between faculty and students
• Include a plan to for dissemination
Additional guidelines:
• Awards will not support faculty salary
• A PI may receive only one award per fiscal year
• Funds must be spent within two years of award
• SSW will retain ownership of any property purchased
Publishing
Open Access Publication Fee Support Request– SSW may cover costs associated with open access publication fees. The service will be provided to faculty once per fiscal year (July 1st- June 30th) pending the availability of funds. Reimbursements are not allowed. To be eligible for funding, the request must be approved by the ADR and payment will be made directly by the business office.
Manuscript/Proposal Feedback- Each SSW faculty member is eligible to use this service for an article or proposal up to $2500 per fiscal year (July 1- June 30). Please contact the Research Office (ssw-research@mx.uillinois.edu) for a list of reviewers or to suggest one.
Data Analysis
Statistical Support- Clinical and tenure track faculty who are working on a grant proposal or a manuscript can request statistical support. The statisticians can provide consultation, complete analysis, and collaborate as members of your research team. Funded projects are expected to pay for these services and grant proposals are expected to include the statistician as a paid member of the research team on funded projects. Projects that cannot afford the services will not be charged, but PIs will need to review and approve the bill before SSW will issue payment.
Dissemination
News & Announcements Form– Share your work by sending us information regarding your new grants, publications, presentations, awards, media coverage, etc. The form is automatically sent to the SSW Communication, Advancement, and Grants Teams and the Research Office. The offices will coordinate dissemination and share through appropriate channels. Please review the terms and conditions of your awards and contracts, as there may be limitations or requirements regarding announcements.

SPA
Sponsored Programs Administration (SPA) is a service unit under the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation, supporting the research enterprise throughout the entire lifecycle of an externally sponsored project, from proposal submission to award closeout.
IRB
The Office for Protection of Research Subjects has launched IRBOnline, an electronic IRB submission system. IRBOnline is now available for all new study, non human subject research and facilitated review applications.
Library
The Social Sciences, Health, and Education Library (SSHEL) provides consistent, high quality research and instructional services to faculty, staff, and students.
