Research Resources

The Research Office works closely with the Dean, the Business Office, and research relevant university offices to support all levels of faculty research at the School of Social Work.  We seek to maintain a culture of rigorous, collaborative, and interprofessional research that is innovative and has real world impact. We accomplish this through high quality lectures, trainings, social events, dissemination of research findings and opportunities, and sharing of resources.

Services and Request Forms

Proposal Submission

Proposal Notification – Those thinking of applying for a grant must complete and submit the Proposal Notification Form. This includes proposals that will be submitted to campus or within the UIUC system (e.g., CSBS, C2A, DPI, etc.) The form should be submitted as soon as possible, but at least 2 full weeks prior to the deadline and at least 6 weeks for federal or state grants.  You can also use this form to notify the SSW Grants Team that you will be submitting an LOI (Letter of Intent). The form is sent to the Grants Team in the SSW Business Office and the SSW Research Office upon submission. Your grant manager will respond within 48 hours with specific questions, submission deadlines, and other relevant information.

Publishing

Open Access Publication Fee Support Request – the School of Social Work may cover costs associated with open access publication fees. The service will be provided to faculty once per fiscal year (July 1st-June 30th) pending the availability of funds. Reimbursements are not allowed. To be eligible for funding, the request must be approved by the ADR and payment will be made directly by the business office.

Manuscript/Proposal Feedback – each School of Social Work faculty member is eligible to use this service for an article or proposal each fiscal year (July 1-June 30). Please contact the Research Office for a list of reviewers or to suggest one.

Statistical Support

Statistical Support – Clinical and tenure track faculty who are working on a grant proposal or a manuscript can request statistical support. The statisticians can provide consultation, complete analysis, and collaborate as members of your research team. Funded projects are expected to pay for these services and grant proposals are expected to include the statistician as a paid member of the research team on funded projects. Projects that cannot afford the services will not be charged, but PIs will need to review and approve the bill before SSW will issue payment.

Data Management

Data Management Course – the School of Social Work’s Data Management Course allows you to learn at your own pace. Complete the course from beginning to end OR jump to any module that interests you. It is a living course that is continuously updated with new content. It is designed to evolve with our community’s needs.

Elizabeth Pillai, Post Award Research Specialist, provides data management support and assists researchers in database development, periodic data monitoring, data cleaning, analysis, and sharing. She can be added as a data manager on grant applications and can advise on proposal specific data management and sharing plans. Elizabeth provides individualized consultation and training through weekly office hours. She has virtual office hours every Tuesday from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm CST.

Dissemination

News & Announcements Form – Share your work by sending us information regarding your new grants, publications, presentations, awards, media coverage, etc. The form is automatically sent to the following SSW teams: Research, Communication, Advancement, and Grants. They will coordinate dissemination and share through appropriate channels. Please review the terms and conditions of your awards and contracts, as there may be limitations or requirements regarding announcements.
