During this presentation, Joseph Monahan will address common and challenging ethical situations for social workers, and identify ways to avoid these issues by providing risk management strategies and best practices, particularly for practitioners working with divorce and visitation issues, juvenile court and child welfare cases, and mental health evaluations. Mr. Monahan will discuss the common risk issues when complying with the Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities Confidentiality Act and will work with participants to differentiate between and understand various reporting requirements including child abuse and neglect, the Adult Protective Services Act, duty to warn and FOID reporting. Lastly, Mr. Monahan will explain the new reporting requirements that will be effective on January 1, 2020.
