Expanding Access, Transforming Futures
Guided by personal passions and a deep belief in access, Susan (GIES ’82) and Mike (GRAINGER ’81, ’85) Haney are actively investing in Illinois and the students shaping its future. Though they had no prior connection to the School of Social Work, they recognized that supporting one of the university’s smaller schools could make a meaningful difference. That conviction led them to call Dean Wynne Korr (Dean 2002-2017) and establish the Susan and Michael Haney Social Work Scholarship, beginning a lasting relationship centered on direct student support.
Through their generosity, Susan and Mike Haney are transforming opportunities for students at the School of Social Work. By giving both now and through their estate, the Haneys invest in student scholarships, expand study abroad opportunities, sustain unpaid internships, and provide essential support for basic and emergent needs, so students can get the most out of their education. For the Haneys, the true legacy of their giving is ensuring that students will continue to receive the support they need now and well into the future.
Susan and Mike’s continued generosity has changed the lives of many students at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. We invite you to read the full story of the Haneys by Illinois Advancement to discover how their philanthropy is shaping the student experience at Illinois.
