Health and Behavioral HealthWhat I Do
My first social work position was at the Health Education and Human Services department at the University of Buffalo, where I provided sexual health education, outreach and short term counseling to university students. While working at UB, I pursued my MSW degree part-time and upon graduating in 2001, I accepted a position at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign as the Sexual Health Educator for McKinley Health Center. At McKinley, I provided sex education and counseling to students with a variety of sexuality concerns. I have also supervised and mentored numerous interns and volunteers throughout my career. I served in this role at McKinley for 16 years before joining the School of Social Work in 2017.
I have spent my career focusing on sexuality, gender and violence prevention and was certified by AASECT (American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists) as both a Sexuality Counselor and Sexuality Educator. I received 40-hour training in sexual assault and interpersonal violence as part of my MSW Field Placement, where I worked as a crisis advocate in both hospital and courtroom settings. I have worked as a training consultant for the Illinois Caucus for Adolescent Health and served as a blue ribbon panelist for Illinois sex education curriculum review. I am a member of the campus LGBT Ally Training Committee.
I have a passion for working with college students, helping them develop both inside and outside the classroom.
