Kate Epstein
EpsteinWords is run by Kate Epstein, a BA in English with a background in trade book publishing. Kate and her small team of subcontractors provide a range of editing services for faculty, and have been working for School of Social Work faculty for several years. Copy editing consists of getting the text right, such that it conforms to grammar, spelling, and punctuation rules as well as applying styles like APA, Chicago, and journal’s own style guides. Formatting involves issues like margins, the appearance of tables, and creating a table of contents. Substantive editing, which Kate provides personally, might include improving the logic flow, shortening text while retaining as much information as possible, taking out passive voice, and making arguments as compelling as possible. Kate lives with her husband and two teenage children in Silver Spring, Maryland. Her website is www.epsteinwords.com
