POSITION TITLE: Child Parent Psychotherapist
REPORTS TO: Program Director
Family Focus provides comprehensive resources and support programs for families with young children in the Englewood area. This position requires engagement and assessment skills and clinical experience in providing child and family therapy and counseling, specifically within a family support framework.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The individual will be required to work at a variety of levels, including clinical (child-parent, individual child and individual parent, and family therapy and counseling), administrative (data input and reporting, meeting with the funder for yearly site visits, community (outreach to families and involvement in community trauma-related activities such as Child Exposure to Violence (CEV). Staff will be one of the primary staff to implement the goals of the Early Childhood Court.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan and implement the program components related to trauma-informed services, including direct services, limited community education, and outreach.
  •  Provide home-, center- and/or community-based trauma-focused therapy, and family support for young children (ages 0-6) and their families who have histories of trauma and exposure to violence
  •  Assess the needs and strengths of families and develop Individual Family Support Plans (IFSPs)/Individual Treatment Plans (ITP)with families
  • Advocate for the rights of children and families and refer families to internal and external community-based organizations for services, including DCFS, schools, DHS, CPD, and medical systems
  • Provide case management for families enrolled in the program, and ensure appropriate referral for families to other trauma-informed community services as needed
  •  Participate and or co-lead the Family Focus Child Exposure to Violence (CEV) coalition, and/or work collaboratively with other child-serving trauma-informed community councils/partners to maintain the focus on child exposure to violence or trauma to targeted age group
  •  Maintain engagement with community-wide trauma serving agencies, and to infuse CEV principles into the community agenda
  • Ensure appropriate delivery and accurate documentation of program activities in database systems
  • Gather information needed for reports, document services, maintain tracking systems, etc.
  • Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards of practice with families and co-workers
  • Ensure that the SAMHSA’s principles of trauma informed approach are embedded in clinical practices.
  •  Develop linkages with psychiatric resources for consultation, evaluation, and referral for additional service as needed.
  •  Ability to work as a part of a team, working to support parents and children and to hold and provide internal consultation on an as-needed basis for home visiting staff
  • Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
  •  2+ years’ experience working in a strength-based capacity with families and young children
  • Strong clinical skills in trauma-focused work with young children and families
  • LSW/LCSW or LPC/LCPC
  • Knowledge and skills in tele-therapy
  • Sensitivity to working with families of diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Knowledge of the effects of violence and trauma on young children
  •  Knowledge of early childhood and lifespan development, systems theory, and family dynamics
  •  Comfortable providing services within stressed/overburdened communities
  •  Knowledge of available community resources for referrals
  • Knowledge of Diagnostic Classification of Mental Health and Developmental Disorders of Infancy and Early Childhood, Revised (DC:0-5) a plus
  •  Knowledge of or training in Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP) a plus
  • Possession of a personal vehicle for work-related travel within and outside of the community
  •  Ability to work as part of a team and independently
  • Participation in staff development opportunities as required
  • Participate in funder required meetings and training
  •  Ability to work early evenings and provide services in the least restricted environment for families (Home, Center and within community as needed)
