Resiliency in Rural Communities

This course is designed for mental health professionals to learn about the concept of resiliency in rural communities. It will introduce them to ways in which individuals and communities exhibit resiliency, the strengths of rural communities, and how to leverage those strengths.

Learning Objectives:

1. Reflect on how beliefs about resiliency impact relationships and outcomes.
2. Define and demonstrate resiliency in rural communities.
3. Identify unique characteristics and connections of rural communities and their residents.
4. Leverage resiliency and unique strengths of rural communities to meet the needs of residents.

Jamie Steward:

As System of Care Coordinator for the PATH team at the School of Social Work, Jamie trains and coaches the Systems of Care Specialists team, trains and coaches providers on Systems of Care and Wraparound for Integrated Health Home staff and leadership, and monitors training and coaching delivery to providers statewide. She has worked in both healthcare and mental health settings, providing a range of support to individuals of all ages over the past decade. Additionally, she has provided clinical supervision to staff.

Jamie holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services from Millikin University, Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.

Natalie Ruth:

Natalie Ruth is the MAP (Managing and Adapting Practice) Clinical Coordinator for the PATH team. She has a master’s in professional counseling, is an LCPC in the state of Illinois, and is also a MAP Training Professional. Natalie has been with the PATH team since 2021.  Natalie has over 10 years of experience in the community mental health setting, providing services to youth and families.
