Tan Awarded Multiple Grants to Advance Social Emotional Learning and Equity

Tan has secured two competitive Healing Illinois grants from the Illinois Department of Human Services. These grants help promote dialogue, collaboration, and facilitate learning around understanding and empathy, given the current mobilization for racial justice. Both also focus on social and emotional learning + equity work with young people, families, and schools. The grants titled, Promoting Racial Healing through a Restorative Approach to Social and Emotional Learning and Promoting Racial Healing and Growth through Transformational Social-Emotional Learning in the Mahomet-Seymour Schools and Communities were applied for in collaboration with the University of Illinois Extension Office and the Mahomet-Seymour School District.

Additionally, Tan’s proposal, Advancing An Integrated Approach to SEL, STEM, and Equity in Middle and High School, was selected for funding as part of the 2020 Extension Collaboration Grants from the University of Illinois Extension and Public Engagement Connection Center.

In regards to his focus, Tan says, “Social-emotional learning is even more critical in light of today’s societal challenges. Since the pandemic struck, I’ve been working closely with schools to promote student and adult SEL. There is much more work to be done and I look forward to continuing this work.”
