Costs and Financial Aid
Each January, the Board of Trustees for the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign set the tuition and fees rates for the next academic year.
Tuition and fees are direct costs charged by the university. The cost of attendance also includes indirect cost allowances for food, housing, books, supplies and other expenses. You will not be billed by the university for these costs unless you live in university housing. Use the Illinois Cost Calculator for an estimated cost of attendance.
Financial Aid
The School of Social Work has a competitive financial aid program which results in several of our students receiving some type of aid that does not have to be repaid. Included in the possibilities are grants, assistantships, fellowships, stipends, tuition waivers, and endowed awards. Financial aid is available on the basis of academic merit and experience and not financial need. Some awards are for first-year students exclusively, while other forms are reserved for current students. Only full-time students on campus are eligible for financial aid.
Illinois Commitment
If you’re an Illinois resident entering the university as a new first year or transfer student in fall 2025 or after whose family makes $75,000 or less and has less than $75,000 in family assets, you may be eligible for the Illinois Commitment financial aid package, which covers the cost of tuition and campus fees. Those entering fall 2024 or spring 2025 will be held to the current income amount of $67,100. The program is unable to cover food and housing, as well as selected other expenses.
