Assistantships and Hourly Positions
Positions
Pre-Professional Assistantships
Pre-Professional Assistantship positions are for first year students only and include an in-state base rate tuition waiver, general fee waiver, and monthly stipend. Students typically work 10 or 20 hours per week while holding an assistantship position. Qualifications for these positions may include any of the following: scholarship, interpersonal skills, computer experience, language skills, writing ability and other work or volunteer experience. These assistantships are usually in student affairs related offices like the Counseling Center, McKinley Health Center, and Family and Graduate Housing.
Students apply directly to these pre-professional assistantships in March. Pre-Professional assistantship positions are usually offered to students in April/ May.
Additional information regarding any other Graduate Assistantships are sent to all admitted students via our student listserv.
Graduate Hourly Positions
Students may also apply for available assistantships and hourly positions at the School of Social Work and throughout the University. If a student is hired for an hourly position, the student may work up to but not exceed 20 hours per week while classes are in session. There is no tuition waiver with an hourly position.
Please note that students must be in good academic standing in order to hold a graduate assistantship or position. The School of Social Work reserves the right to reduce or eliminate a student’s work hours if good academic standing and satisfactory progress is not maintained.
