The School of Social Work has a dedicated undergraduate academic advisor who is here to help you through the course selection process and beyond. See requirements and deadline information below.
Requirements
Students are required to meet with the Undergraduate Academic Advisor every semester to discuss course selection before they are allowed to register for classes.
Appointments can be made at any time, though course planning appointments must be made after the class schedule for the next semester has been released.
Important Deadlines
Full Semester Courses
- Last day to add – 10th day of instruction (September 3rd)
- Deadline to declare Drop a course, Elect Credit/No Credit, or Request a Grade Replacement – Mid-point of the course (October 15th)
1st Eight Week Courses
- Last day to add – 5th day of instruction (August 27th)
- Deadline to declare Drop a course, Elect Credit/No Credit, or Request a Grade Replacement – Mid-point of the course (September 17th)
2nd Eight Week Courses
- Last day to add – 5th day of instruction (October 22nd)
- Deadline to declare Drop a course, Elect Credit/No Credit, or Request a Grade Replacement – Mid-point of the course (November 12th)
Notification for Full Courses
Looking to add a course that is currently full? Follow the instructions below to be notified if space in a course becomes available.
- Go to https://courses.illinois.edu/ and log in. The log in link is on the top right hand side.
- Navigate to the course that you’re interested in. For example, https://courses.illinois.edu/schedule/2020/summer/SPAN/130 . You’ll want MCB 151 for Spring 2021.
- In the 3rd column, click on the star. This will add it to your favorites. A small window will pop up and you can access your favorites in my.courses. You can also click on “My Favorites” which is an orange box toward the right hand part of the screen.
- The second column on this screen “Notify Me” has a checkbox you can click to be notified via e-mail if someone drops the course and space opens up.
