About

Monica D. Cherry, LCSW is a two-time alum of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign earning her Bachelor of Psychology degree in 2007 and her Master of Social Work degree in 2012. Monica spent over six years working at Cunningham Children’s Home in Urbana, IL and another six plus years working at the community behavioral health center, Rosecrance, in Champaign, IL. Monica became a private practice therapist at Elliott Counseling Center in 2014 where she continues to provide individual and couples counseling. She also had the privilege of instructing as an adjunct at the School of Social Work from 2017-2019. Monica joined the School of Social Work as the Director of Student Affairs in December of 2019.

In addition to her academic and professional background, Monica is a local to the Champaign-Urbana area. She maintains a close bond to her parents, fiancé, three siblings, two bonus brothers, bonus sister, and niece. Monica recently got open-water SCUBA certified along with her fiancé and four family members, plays ice hockey in a coed league with her dad, youngest sister, and bonus brother, has an affinity for adopting rescues (especially those with disabilities), and enjoys a variety of arts and crafts projects. Monica’s favorite person is her niece, Mila, favorite animal the polar bear, and bucket list includes stepping foot on all 7 continents.
